Open My Heart · Book 1 — a work of romantic fiction by S.S. Bazinet

What is the true meaning of love?

Undoubtedly, the answer you get to this question will depend greatly upon whom you ask. Some will focus on attraction, while others may target affection in their interpretation. Be that as it may, one thing is consistent in every definition of love I have ever come across. It is the slow, often painful work of learning another person and letting them learn you in return.

Traces of Home takes that work seriously. S.S. Bazinet's romantic fiction follows Lea as she navigates love and rock bottom, and the story earns the quiet hope at its center rather than simply asserting it.

Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you are able to rise.

That is the lesson this book leaves its reader holding. Lea does not climb out of the wreckage in a single triumphant leap; she works her way back up, one honest step at a time, and the book is at its most convincing in those quiet intervals where she has to decide for herself what she wants. The ebb and flow of her relationships is handled with care, and the emotional texture of the story lingers long after the final page.

Bazinet writes with warmth and an ear for the small domestic details that carry the weight of a life. The result is a book that feels lived in rather than plotted, and a story that readers of romantic fiction will find both moving and reassuring.
